Scope

This statement applies to the website gartenkern.de and all associated subdomains, insofar as they are offered to users.

It does not cover the internal administration areas of the platform. These are used solely by the operator, are open to no one else, and are therefore not a service offered to consumers.

Our benchmark is the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) in conjunction with Directive (EU) 2019/882 (European Accessibility Act) and the BFSG Ordinance (BFSGV).

Gartenkern is operated by a sole trader and therefore meets the criteria of a micro-enterprise under § 3 (1) no. 5 BFSG. Services provided by micro-enterprises fall outside the scope of the BFSG. We publish this statement voluntarily and voluntarily align the platform with the requirements of the BFSG.

Conformance status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

The platform was built with accessibility in mind and builds on a component library that provides WCAG-conformant building blocks. Even so, individual limitations remain, which we disclose below.

Non-accessible content

The following content is currently not accessible, or only partially:

Layout editor

The graphical garden layout editor is based on HTML5 Canvas and is not fully usable with a screen reader.

  • Status: alternative list view available
  • Reason: technical limitation of canvas rendering
  • Alternative: areas and plantings can be edited through the list view under "Garden detail → Areas" without the editor

Map view

The interactive map for locating your garden is not fully usable by keyboard or screen reader.

  • Status: alternative address entry form available as a fallback
  • Reason: WebGL-based map library, fundamental limitation

PDF documents

Contract confirmations and plant passports are generated as PDFs. The PDFs carry ARIA tags but are accessible to varying degrees depending on the reader software.

Preparation of this statement

This statement is based on a self-assessment carried out on 9 July 2026. The assessment comprised:

  • An automated scan with axe-core 4 against the WCAG 2.2 Level AA rule set across every publicly reachable page template of the platform, in both languages: home, features, pricing, about, seasons, allotment finder, magazine (index, topic, article), plant encyclopedia (index and plant detail), garden clubs, federations (index, federal state, federation detail), plus all four legal documents, sign-in and sign-up.
  • Automated tests with axe-core at component level and in the end-to-end suite, both of which run before any change reaches the main branch.
  • Automated checks with Lighthouse CI on the marketing pages.

Result: on the pages tested, the scan reports no violations of critical or serious severity. Findings from earlier runs, mainly insufficient text contrast and incorrectly marked up lists, have been fixed.

The scan covers what can be checked automatically. Criteria that require human judgement, such as whether alternative texts are meaningful or whether the focus order makes sense, are therefore not conclusively assessed. The areas behind the sign-in were not assessed either.

Canvas-based components (layout editor, map) carry ARIA labels and role attributes; a full alternative list view is available.
