About this federation

The Landesverband Berlin der Gartenfreunde e. V. is the regional umbrella association for the allotment-garden movement (Kleingartenwesen) in Berlin, with its seat at Spandauer Damm 274, 14052 Berlin. Its origins date back to April 1901, when allotment colonies joined together into an association of planters' societies in Berlin and its surroundings. The federation brings together 18 district federations (Bezirksverbände) plus one group of settlers and homeowners, representing 66,134 allotment leaseholders across 736 allotment sites. The land used for allotment gardening in Berlin amounts to roughly 2,900 hectares, around 3 percent of the city's total area.
