Landesverband Thüringen der Gartenfreunde e. V. is the state association for allotment gardening in the Free State of Thuringia, headquartered in Sömmerda. It was refounded on a democratic basis on 30 June 1990, after an earlier state association had already existed since 1922; the roots of allotment gardening in Thuringia go back to 1787, with the first local clubs founded in 1887 in Sonneberg and Altenburg. The state association comprises 28 district, regional, territorial and city associations with a total of 1,469 clubs and around 64,936 members. Since 1992 the state association has been a member of the Bundesverband Deutscher Gartenfreunde (BDG), the German federal association of gardeners.
