The federation was formed in 2011 through the merger of the Kreisverband der Gartenfreunde Saale-Unstrut e.V. and the Regionalverband der Gartenfreunde Rohne-Querne-Weida Querfurt e.V. Its area of responsibility covers 72 member associations with around 5,000 members and about 4,000 cultivated allotment plots, including 20 sites in Naumburg and 10 sites in Querfurt as well as further sites in the surrounding rural area.
