KGV "An der Thaerstraße" Leipzig-Eutritzsch e.V. is an allotment garden association in the Leipzig district of Eutritzsch (Saxony). The association was founded in 1894 and has been registered in the association register at the Leipzig district court under number 272 since 1990; it belongs to the Stadtverband Leipzig der Kleingärtner e.V., which is itself a member of the Landesverband Sachsen der Kleingärtner e.V. The grounds lie between Thaerstraße and Mosenthinstraße as well as between the B2 road and the sports field of Lipsia 93 Eutritzsch, cover about 10 hectares, and comprise more than 400 plots with over 600 association members. The Kulturhaus Eutritzsch, centrally located and home to the association's seat, also hosts a senior citizens' garden that is free to use for elderly visitors as well, along with the association's own composting of green and hedge cuttings.

How do I get an allotment garden here?
Plots are handed out by the club itself, not by the city and not by us. The usual route: contact the club, ask to be put on the waiting list, and apply to several sites at the same time. How long it takes depends heavily on the region, from a few weeks in rural areas to several years in sought-after city locations. What does a plot cost?
Rent is capped by law and comes to roughly 0.15 to 0.40 euros per square metre per year, depending on the federal state, Saxony included. On top of that come club fees, water, electricity and levies, together around 330 euros a year for a 300 m² plot. When you move in you pay the previous tenant a one-off transfer fee for the hut and the planting. Each club sets the exact amounts itself.
What do I have to grow in an allotment garden?
The German Federal Allotment Garden Act requires horticultural use. The rule of thumb is the thirds rule: roughly one third of the area for fruit and vegetables, one third for recreation, one third for paths and the hut. A purely ornamental or lawn garden is not permitted. You may not live in the hut permanently.
